We’ve Been Listening: Why We Changed How We Talk About Global Pet Sitter
When we launched Global Pet Sitter a couple of weeks ago, the foundation was already solid. The product worked, the vision was clear, and early users were excited to try it.
What became obvious very quickly, though, was that while we’re good at building software, we’re not communication specialists. We weren’t doing a great job explaining why Global Pet Sitter exists—or what actually makes it different.
You didn’t hesitate to tell us.
And that feedback mattered.
The Wake-Up Call
One comment summed it up perfectly:
We were spending too much energy talking about what’s wrong with other platforms—rather than clearly showing what makes ours stand out.
That hit home.
Not because it meant the product was wrong—but because it showed our focus was slightly off. The platform was already heading in the right direction. The story just wasn’t.
What We Changed (and What We Didn’t)
We didn’t pivot.
We didn’t rip things apart.
Instead, we zoomed out and asked ourselves a simple question:
If we were discovering Global Pet Sitter today, would we immediately understand why it exists?
The honest answer was: probably not.
So we made a conscious shift. Rather than pointing out what frustrates us about other platforms, we’re now putting all our energy into clearly showing what we do believe in—and how that shows up in the product.
Turning Feedback Into Focus
Over the holidays, instead of taking time off, we read every comment, discussion, and critique—especially the ones shared on Reddit. Then we did what developers naturally do: we started fixing things.
Not just in the product, but in how we talk about it.
That meant:
- Sharpening our messaging
- Being clearer about our values
- Explaining decisions instead of assuming they’re obvious
The goal wasn’t to sound polished.
It was to sound honest.
Our Mission, Clearly Stated
Our mission hasn’t changed:
To create the best possible platform for organizing housesits—one that’s joyful to use, transparent by default, and shaped directly by the people who rely on it.
That’s what we’re building toward.
And that’s what we’ll keep communicating more clearly moving forward.
In the next posts, we’ll share more about:
- Who we are and how we think about trust
- What we’ve shipped recently
- What’s coming next (and how you can influence it)
If you’ve shared feedback already: thank you.
If you haven’t yet: we’re listening—with both ears.
