Local Pet Regulations
Dog Licensing
Manchester requires all dogs over four months old to be licensed with the City Clerk's office. Licenses require proof of rabies vaccination and cost $7.50 for altered dogs and $10.00 for unaltered dogs. Late fees apply after June 1.
Leash Laws
Manchester requires dogs to be on a leash or under direct physical control in all public areas. Dogs running at large may be impounded by animal control. Owners are liable for any damage caused by unleashed dogs.
Dog Waste Ordinance
Manchester requires pet owners to immediately clean up after their dogs on all public and private property (other than the owner's). The city provides waste bag stations at some parks. Violations can result in fines.
Nuisance Dog Complaints
Manchester handles nuisance dog complaints including excessive barking, aggressive behavior, and dogs running at large through the Animal Control division. Repeat offenses can result in escalating fines and court-ordered restrictions on the dog.
