Local Pet Regulations

Dog Licensing

Teton County requires all dogs to be licensed with proof of current rabies vaccination. Licenses are available through the town of Jackson and must be renewed annually.

Leash Law

Jackson requires dogs to be on a leash within town limits except at the designated dog park. On surrounding national forest land, dogs may be off-leash under voice control. Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks have strict leash and restriction rules.

Wildlife Conflict Prevention

Jackson has strict regulations about dogs interacting with wildlife. Dogs must not harass elk, moose, bears, or other wildlife. During elk calving season (May-June) and bear emergence (March-April), extra caution is required. Violations are enforced by both town and Wyoming Game and Fish officers.

Bear-Aware Requirements

Teton County requires bear-proof trash containers and recommends keeping pets indoors at night during bear-active seasons (April-November). Dogs left outside may attract bears and other predators.
