Local Pet Regulations

Dog Licensing

Summit County requires all dogs to be licensed with proof of rabies vaccination. Licenses are issued through the county animal control office and must be renewed annually.

Leash Law

Park City requires dogs to be on leash in all public areas unless in a designated off-leash area. Many trails in the surrounding mountains allow off-leash dogs under voice control, but city streets and sidewalks require leashes.

Wildlife Interaction

Park City has active populations of moose, deer, and occasionally bears. Dogs must not harass wildlife and owners can be fined for allowing dogs to chase wild animals. Moose encounters are particularly dangerous in winter and spring.

Trail Etiquette

Park City's extensive trail system has specific pet rules by area. Dogs must be under voice control on off-leash trails and owners must yield to other trail users. Waste must be packed out on all trails — 'Mutt Mitt' stations are provided at most trailheads.
