Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail

Leash required

A 2.25-mile paved multi-use trail connecting Piedmont Park to Inman Park through Old Fourth Ward. Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash. The trail passes Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market, and numerous restaurants. One of the most popular dog walking routes in Atlanta.

Freedom Park

Leash required

A linear park and trail connecting the Carter Center to Candler Park with walking paths through open meadows and wooded areas. Dogs must be leashed on the trail. The path connects to the BeltLine and provides a quieter alternative for walking through intown neighborhoods.

Fetch Dog Park at Historic Fourth Ward Park

A popular fenced off-leash dog park adjacent to the BeltLine in Old Fourth Ward. Features a splash pad for dogs, separate areas for large and small dogs, and AstroTurf surfaces. The park overlooks the Historic Fourth Ward Park lake and skate park.

Local Pet Regulations

Leash Law

Atlanta requires all dogs to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet when on public property unless in a designated off-leash area. The BeltLine enforces a strict 6-foot leash requirement. Fines for violations start at $150.

Dog Licensing

Fulton County requires all dogs over 4 months to be licensed annually. Altered dog licenses cost $10, unaltered cost $25. DeKalb County (east Atlanta) has similar requirements. Proof of rabies vaccination is required for licensing.

Responsible Dog Ownership

Georgia's statewide Responsible Dog Ownership Law applies in Atlanta. All dogs must be restrained by leash, within an enclosure, or under the immediate physical control of a person capable of restraining them. Violations are misdemeanors.

Waste Cleanup

Atlanta requires dog owners to immediately clean up after their dogs on all public property, including parks, sidewalks, and the BeltLine. The BeltLine has waste bag stations throughout the trail. Fines for failure to clean up can reach $250.
