One of the most popular dog parks in the Twin Cities, located along Minnehaha Creek near the famous falls. The off-leash area spans several acres with open fields, wooded sections, and creek access where dogs can splash in warmer months. Adjacent to Minnehaha Falls and the river gorge trails.

Lake of the Isles Off-Leash Area

A designated off-leash area along the west shore of Lake of the Isles in the heart of the Chain of Lakes district. Dogs can run in the open field area and access the lake shore. The surrounding lake path provides excellent leashed walking with beautiful views.

Theodore Wirth Regional Park

Chain of Lakes Trail

A connected trail system circling Lake Harriet, Lake Calhoun (Bde Maka Ska), Lake of the Isles, and Cedar Lake. The full loop is approximately 13 miles of paved paths through Minneapolis's most scenic neighborhoods. Dogs must be leashed on trails but the route passes multiple off-leash areas.

Local Pet Regulations

Dog Licensing

Minneapolis requires all dogs over six months old to be licensed annually. Licenses cost $25 for altered dogs and $50 for unaltered dogs. Proof of rabies vaccination is required. Licenses can be purchased online through the city's website.

Off-Leash Park Rules

Minneapolis operates 9 off-leash dog parks across the city. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated to use off-leash areas. Owners must maintain voice control over their dogs at all times. Aggressive dogs must be removed immediately.

Breed-Neutral Dangerous Dog Ordinance

Minneapolis does not have breed-specific legislation. Dogs are classified as dangerous or potentially dangerous based on individual behavior. Owners of dangerous dogs must register the animal, maintain liability insurance, and comply with containment and muzzle requirements.

Pet Waste Requirements
